The Elkhart Central Varsity Softball team opened their season with a 10-0 win over Jimtown. Lilly Fann picked up the win allowing just 3 hits in the shutout. Katey Gaff and Jenni Gill had 2 RBI apiece. Sabryna Stanley led the team with 3 runs while Ay’Zyana Billings-Tiller scored twice.

“Great effort by our girls,” said a pleased head coach Brent Bardo after the win. “They came to play today and got a great win against a very good Jimtown team. Lilly (Fann) had great command of her pitches today and really had Jimtown guessing. Sabryna (Stanley) had a great day hitting and also ended an inning with a great diving catch.”

A highlight of the night was a home run by sophomore Jenni Gill. It was the first of her career, but one that Gill says will be “the first of many.”

“I wanted to keep running when I got to 2nd base,” said Gill as she realized her blast went over the center field fence. “It was really exciting when all of my teammates celebrated with me at home plate.”

The 1-0 Lady Blazers will travel to Goshen today.
